Biography

Dr. Stan Jones OBE FREng CEng FIET

Dr. Stan Jones

Stan Jones gained a BSc and PhD from the University of Bangor in N. Wales. He carried out research on semiconductors and surface-wave devices at Texas Instruments, Dallas, before embarking on a career in control and computing in the electricity industry. Moving to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, he became Group Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Transmission and Distribution.

He was awarded an OBE for services to the community in training and education, and is a lifelong advocate of young people and their parents understanding more about science and engineering to make better informed career choices.

Stan started collecting ceramics some 30 years ago, and his international travel enabled him to visit many museums and historic sites, fuelling and engaging his passion for the subject. Bringing Ceramics - Art or Science? to life has been a personal ambition for many years.
