A great deal of research has been carried out on the development of man in the Fertile Crescent area of West Asia or Middle East – the region of the valleys of the Euphrates and Tigris (that is Mesopotamia, which is the Greek for “between two rivers”, across to present day Syria and Jordan, and on to the Nile valley.
